After a combined 68 years of joyful service to The Hartt School composition program, Robert Carl and Ken Steen are retiring. They are celebrating this event with a concert featuring the premiers of 2 major recent works, written for and performed by the Foot in the Door Ensemble under the direction of Glen Adsit and Edward Cumming. 

The program includes Steen’s moments after…(2023), for electric guitar, mixed large ensemble, and 6 channel immersive audio, featuring Thomas Schuttenhelm on electric guitar, and Kyle Grimm on laptop; and Carl’s Symphony No. 7, “Infinity Avenue” (2020), for chamber orchestra, voices and laptop, featuring Daniel Minogue on laptop.

Both composers feel that these works are a distillation of their respective artistic practice and vision — a fitting way to celebrate the completion of each body of work while listening forward to what may come next.
