If You Should Go with Me (2015)

A Series of Dances and Grooves for Violin and Cello (5')

If You Should Go with Me was written in 2015 during a time when I was deeply interested in the idea of the “love story”. I’ve always been interested in the flirtatious beginnings. Those first seconds of meeting in which the two characters in question become interested in one another. I also thought about how nervous and horrible I can be when confronted with those first moments. This duet for violin and cello is meant to tell the story of a hopeless romantic clumsily courting a romantic interest. This comedic gracelessness is conveyed through the use of complex time signatures in which the dances each section is based on are constantly augmented and diminished, giving the feeling of someone falling over their own feet as they attempt to make an impression.
